No Public Smoking in NYC?

While driving today, I heard on the radio that the city of New York will soon put an end to public smoking in places such as Time Square, Central Park, etc. Pretty much giving smokers the option to smoke at home, if someone is caught smoking in a prohinited area, they will receive a fine of up to $150. I'm unsure how this is going to pan out in the long run as I believe smokers will become irate and not form to change so well. I stand in the middle of this issue. I know smokers pay taxes, keeping many employed. If smoking really does become banned in other major cities, currently employed workers at the cigarette companies may soon become unemployed. Smokers will retaliate in more ways then one! However, I also pay taxes and am a non-smoker. Why should I be subjected to inhaling and smelling like cigarette smoke? I believe we all should have the option to do what we choose to do in our own personal lives, but I strongly believe going a different route and meeting in the middle. Maybe having a designated smoking area for smokers will make more sense. I am really not sure how this will work and if police departments like the NYPD don’t already have enough issues to take on.
